Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 29, 2026

Your Privacy Matters

PulseRSS is designed with privacy at its core. We believe your reading habits are personal and should stay on your device. This policy explains our commitment to protecting your privacy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you use PulseRSS, we collect minimal information:

  • RSS Feed URLs: Feed subscriptions you add are stored locally on your device.
  • App Settings: Your preferences (theme, notification settings, etc.) are stored locally and optionally synced via encrypted iCloud.
  • Read Later Queue: Articles you save are cached locally on your device for offline reading.

1.2 Automatically Collected Information

To improve app stability and performance, we collect limited anonymous usage data through Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics:

  • App Usage Statistics: Anonymous metrics like app opens, feature usage, and session duration.
  • Crash Reports: Technical diagnostics when the app crashes (no personal data or reading content included).
  • Device Information: iOS version, device model, and language settings for compatibility purposes.

1.3 Information We DO NOT Collect

  • We do not track which articles you read or when you read them.
  • We do not store your reading history on our servers.
  • We do not collect personal identifiers (name, email, phone number) unless you contact our support.
  • We do not share your data with third-party advertisers.

2. How We Use Your Information

The limited data we collect is used solely for:

  • App Functionality: Providing core features like feed syncing, offline reading, and content extraction.
  • Performance Improvement: Identifying and fixing bugs, optimizing app speed and reliability.
  • User Support: Responding to your inquiries if you contact us.
  • Service Announcements: Notifying you of critical updates (only if you opt-in to notifications).

3. On-Device Processing

PulseRSS is built with privacy-first architecture:

  • AI Summaries: All Apple Intelligence processing happens on your device. Article summaries are generated locally and never sent to external servers.
  • Full-Text Extraction: Content extraction is performed entirely on your device using local algorithms.
  • Search: All article searches are executed locally against your on-device database. No search queries are transmitted externally.
  • Content Caching: Articles in your Read Later queue are cached on your device, not on our servers.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage

Your feed subscriptions, articles, and settings are stored locally on your device using secure iOS data storage mechanisms (SwiftData). This data is protected by iOS device encryption.

4.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync:

  • Only app settings and feed subscriptions are synced via iCloud.
  • All data is encrypted end-to-end by Apple before leaving your device.
  • We do not have access to your iCloud data—only you can decrypt it.
  • You can disable iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings.

4.3 Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google): For anonymous analytics and crash reporting. Firebase's privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
  • Apple Intelligence: On-device AI processing (no data leaves your device).

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

  • Legal Compliance: If required by law, court order, or government regulation.
  • Service Providers: Anonymous analytics data shared with Firebase (Google) for app improvement purposes only.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, user data would be transferred under the same privacy commitments.

6. Your Privacy Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view all your data within the app (it's stored locally on your device).
  • Deletion: You can delete all app data by uninstalling the app or using the "Clear All Data" option in settings.
  • Portability: You can export your feed subscriptions via OPML file at any time.
  • Opt-Out: Disable analytics by turning off "Share Analytics" in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
